Description
Interleukin-6 (IL6) is a 20.5 kDa cytokine, containing 184 amino acid residues, that functions in inflammation and the maturation of B-cells. It induces a number of biological responses and plays a role in cell growth regulation, immune host defense, angiogenesis and others. IL6 is primarily produced at sites of acute and chronic inflammation, where it is secreted into the serum and induces a transcriptional inflammatory response through Interleukin-6 Receptor alpha (IL6R). It is produced by many different cell types including monocytes, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, glial cells, and keratinocytes. IL6 is implicated in a wide variety of inflammation-associated disease states, including susceptibility to Diabetes Mellitus and systemic Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. The Human IL6 ELISA is an, in vitro, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of Human IL6 in serum, plasma, cell culture supernatants and urine. This assay employs an antibody specific for Human IL6 coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and IL6 present in a sample is bound to the wells by the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and Biotinylated Anti-Human IL6 antibody is added. After washing away unbound Biotinylated antibody, HRP-Streptavidin is pipetted to the wells. The wells are again washed, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of IL6 bound.
Storage and Stability
May be stored for up to 6 months at 2-8C from the date of shipment. Standard should be stored below -20C (-80C recommended) after reconstitution. Opened Microplate Wells and reagents may be store for up to 1 month at 2-4C. Return unused wells to the pouch containing desiccant pack, reseal along entire edge of zipseal.
Sensitivity
The minimum detectable dose of IL6 is typically less than 3.0 pg/mL.
