The Bioaim Human Angiogenin ELISA kit is a solid phase sandwich ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) for the quantitative measurement of Angiogenin in human serum and plasma. An antibody specific for human Angiogenin was coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are added to the wells and any Angiogenin present binds to the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and biotinylated anti-human Angiogenin antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is added to the wells. The wells are again washed and TMB substrate solution is added, which produces a blue color in direct proportion to the amount of Angiogenin present in the initial sample. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the microwell absorbances are read at 450 nm.

Background: Angiogenin (Ang) also known as ribonuclease 5 is a small 123 amino acid protein that in humans is encoded by the ANG gene. Angiogenin is a potent stimulator of new blood vessels through the process of angiogenesis. It was initially purified based on its ability to initiate vascularization in the chicken embryo chorioallantoic membrane from serum-free media conditioned by growth of a human adenocarcinoma cell line HT-29. A number of other tumors, as well as normal cell lines, also secrete Angiogenin. Angiogenin is present in normal human plasma.
