Description

Human IL-13 is expressed in activated T-helper cells and T-cells expressing CD8. It is not expressed in heart, brain, placenta, lung, liver, and skeletal muscle tissues. IL-13 is a pleiotropic cytokine that has important anti-inflammatory and immunoregulatory activities. It down-modulates macrophage activity, reducing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines in response to IFN-a or bacterial lypopolysaccharides. The Cell Sciences Human IL-13 ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is an in vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of human IL-13 in serum, plasma, cell culture supernatants and urine. This assay employs an antibody specific for human IL-13 coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and IL-13 present in a sample is bound to the wells by the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and biotinylated anti-human IL-13 antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is pipetted to the wells. The wells are again washed, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of IL-13 bound. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the intensity of the color is measured at 450nm.
