CD8

and the most common subtypes like CD8a, CD8b and CD8+

CD8a - Cluster of differentiation 8a

CD8a Gene ID 12525
CD8a Official Full Name CD8 antigen, alpha chain
CD8a Alias T8, Leu-2, MAL, CD8 alpha
CD8a Cellular Expression T; NK; Dendritic
CD8a Ligand/Receptor/Association MHC class I
CD8a Function Co-receptor for MHC class 1 molecules
CD8a Summary T-cell surface glycoprotein CD8 alpha chain. Identifies cytotoxic/suppressor T-cells that interact with MHC class I bearing targets

CD8b - Cluster of differentiation 8b

CD8b Gene ID 926
CD8b Official Full Name CD8b molecule
CD8b Alias CD8B1, P37
CD8b Cellular Expression T
CD8b Ligand/Receptor/Association MHC class I
CD8b Function Co-receptor for MHC class 1 molecules
CD8b Summary The CD8 antigen is a cell surface glycoprotein found on most cytotoxic T lymphocytes that mediates efficient cell-cell interactions within the immune system. The CD8 antigen, acting as a coreceptor, and the T-cell receptor on the T lymphocyte recognize antigens displayed by an antigen presenting cell (APC) in the context of class I MHC molecules. The functional coreceptor is either a homodimer composed of two alpha chains, or a heterodimer composed of one alpha and one beta chain. Both alpha and beta chains share significant homology to immunoglobulin variable light chains. This gene encodes the CD8 beta chain isoforms. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct membrane associated or secreted isoforms have been described. A pseudogene, also located on chromosome 2, has been identified.
