The Bioaim Rat IL-1 alpha ELISA kit is a solid phase sandwich ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) for the quantitative measurement of IL-1 alpha in rat serum, plasma and cell culture media. An antibody specific for rat IL-1 alpha was coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are added to the wells and any IL-1 alpha present binds to the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and biotinylated anti-rat IL-1 alpha antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is added to the wells. The wells are again washed and TMB substrate solution is added, which produces a blue color in direct proportion to the amount of IL-1 alpha present in the initial sample. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the microwell absorbances are read at 450 nm.Research Area Breast Cancer Stem Cell Markers; inflammation;

interleukin 1 alpha( IL-1 α ) Background: IL-1α is produced mainly by activated macrophages, as well as neutrophils, epithelial cells, and endothelial cells. It possesses metabolic, physiological, haematopoietic activities, and plays one of the central roles in the regulation of the immune responses. It binds to the interleukin-1 receptor. It is on the pathway that activates tumor necrosis factor-alpha. It also supports hematopoietic stem cell expansion, promotes neutrophil mobilization from the bone marrow, and promotes osteoclast formation. IL-1 alpha signals through a receptor complex composed of IL-1 RI and IL-1 RAcP. It also binds the decoy receptor IL-1 RII which associates with IL-1 RAcP but does not transduce signaling.
