The Bioaim Mouse Resistin ELISA kit is a solid phase sandwich ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) for the quantitative measurement of Resistin in mouse serum, plasma and cell culture media. An antibody specific for mouse resistin was coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are added to the wells and any Resistin present binds to the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and biotinylated anti-mouse Resistin antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is added to the wells. The wells are again washed and TMB substrate solution is added, which produces a blue color in direct proportion to the amount of Resistin present in the initial sample. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the microwell absorbances are read at 450 nm.Research Area Peptide Hormone; Lipid metabolism;
Resistin(Resistin) Background: Resistin, also known ADSF and FIZZ3, is a secreted peptide hormone that circulates as either a noncovalent trimer, or a disulfide-linked homohexamer. Resistin is expressed by white adipocytes, splenocytes, astrocytes, and anterior pituitary epithelium. It blocks Insulin-stimulated uptake of glucose by adipocytes and promotes glucose release by hepatocytes. High circulating Insulin levels induce Resistin secretion which then antagonize Insulin action. Resistin increases the production of LDL in human liver cells and also degrades LDL receptors in the liver. As a result, the liver is less able to clear ‘bad’ cholesterol from the body. Resistin accelerates the accumulation of LDL in arteries, increasing the risk of heart disease.Resistin adversely impacts the effects of statins, the main cholesterol-reducing drug used in the treatment and prevention of cardiovascular disease.
