The Bioaim Mouse Cystatin C ELISA kit is a solid phase sandwich ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) for the quantitative measurement of Cystatin C in mouse serum, plasma and cell culture media. An antibody specific for mouse Cystatin C was coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are added to the wells and any Cystatin C present binds to the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and biotinylated anti-mouse Cystatin C antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is added to the wells. The wells are again washed and TMB substrate solution is added, which produces a blue color in direct proportion to the amount of Cystatin C present in the initial sample. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the microwell absorbances are read at 450 nm.Research Area Kidney biomarker; Cardiovascular disease;
Cystatin C(Cystatin C) Background: Cystatin C is a secreted cysteine protease inhibitor that inhibits Cathepsins B, H, K, L, and S. is mainly used as a biomarker of kidney function. Recently, it has been studied for its role in predicting new-onset or deteriorating cardiovascular disease. It also seems to play a role in brain disorders involving amyloid, such as Alzheimer’s disease. In humans, all cells with a nucleus produce cystatin C as a chain of 120 amino acids. It is found in virtually all tissues and body fluids. It is a potent inhibitor of lysosomal proteinases and probably one of the most important extracellular inhibitors of cysteine proteases. Cystatin C serum concentration correlates closely to the glomerular filtration rate (GFR); elevated levels are associated with coronary artery and cardiovascular disease risk. Dysregulation of Cystatin C can modulate tumor growth and metastasis.
