The Bioaim Human MDK ELISA kit is a solid phase sandwich ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) for the quantitative measurement of MDK in Human serum, plasma and cell culture media. An antibody specific for Human MDK was coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are added to the wells and any MDK present binds to the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and biotinylated anti-Human MDK antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is added to the wells. The wells are again washed and TMB substrate solution is added, which produces a blue color in direct proportion to the amount of MDK present in the initial sample. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the microwell absorbances are read at 450 nm.

Midkine(MDK)
Background: Midkine is a basic heparin-binding growth factor of low molecular weight, and forms a family with pleiotrophin. It is a nonglycosylated protein, composed of two domains held by disulfide bridges. It is a developmentally important retinoic acid-responsive gene product strongly induced during mid-gestation, hence the name midkine. Restricted mainly to certain tissues in the normal adult, it is strongly induced during oncogenesis, inflammation and tissue repair. MK is pleiotropic, capable of exerting activities such as cell proliferation, cell migration, angiogenesis and fibrinolysis.
