The Bioaim Human IL-11 ELISA kit is a solid phase sandwich ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) for the quantitative measurement of IL-11 in human serum and plasma. An antibody specific for human IL-11 was coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are added to the wells and any IL-11 present binds to the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and biotinylated anti-human IL-11 antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is added to the wells. The wells are again washed and TMB substrate solution is added, which produces a blue color in direct proportion to the amount of IL-11 present in the initial sample. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the microwell absorbances are read at 450 nm.Research Area Inflammation;
Interleukin 11( IL-11 ) Background: IL-11 is a multifunctional cytokine first isolated in 1990 from bone marrow-derived stromal cells. It is a key regulator of multiple events in hematopoiesis, most notably the stimulation of megakaryocyte maturation. It is also known under the names adipogenesis inhibitory factor (AGIF) and oprelvekin. It is secreted by osteoblasts, synoviocytes, fibroblasts, chondrocytes, intestinal myofibroblasts, and trophoblasts. It is considered to be primarily anti-inflammatory. It stimulates hematopoiesis and thrombopoiesis, regulates macrophage differentiation, and confers mucosal protection in the intestine. It enhances T cell polarization toward Th2, promote B cell IgG production, increases osteoclast bone absorption, protects endothelial cells from oxidative stress, and regulates epithelial proliferation and apoptosis. IL-11 signals through a receptor complex that contains IL-11 R alpha and gp130.
