The Bioaim Human FLRG ELISA kit is a solid phase sandwich ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) for the quantitative measurement of FLRG in Human serum, plasma and cell culture media. An antibody specific for Human FLRG was coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are added to the wells and any FLRG present binds to the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and biotinylated anti-Human FLRG antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is added to the wells. The wells are again washed and TMB substrate solution is added, which produces a blue color in direct proportion to the amount of FLRG present in the initial sample. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the microwell absorbances are read at 450 nm.

Background: Follistatin-related gene protein (FLRG) has been shown to bind and inhibit the TGF-beta family ligands including activin, BMP-2, -6, -7, and GDF-8. FLRG is expressed most highly in heart, lung, kidney, and placenta, and is upregulated by TGF-beta and Activin via Smad proteins. Follistatin-like 3 is a secreted glycoprotein of the follistatin-module-protein family. It may have a role in leukemogenesis.
