BioAim Scientific (Kanada)
The Bioaim Human FGF-21 ELISA kit is a solid phase sandwich ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) for the quantitative measurement of FGF-21 in Human serum, plasma and cell culture media. An antibody specific for Human FGF-21 was coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are added to the wells and any FGF-21 present binds to the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and biotinylated anti-Human FGF-21 antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is added to the wells. The wells are again washed and TMB substrate solution is added, which produces a blue color in direct proportion to the amount of FGF-21 present in the initial sample. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the microwell absorbances are read at 450 nm.Research Area Angiogenesis; cell growth;

Fibroblast growth factor 21(FGF-21) Background: FGF-21 (Fibroblast Growth Factor 21) is a member of an FGF subfamily that also includes FGF-19 and FGF-23. FGF21 stimulates glucose uptake in adipocytes but not in other cell types.[8] This effect is additive to the activity of insulin. FGF21 treatment of adipocytes is associated with phosphorylation of FRS2, a protein linking FGF receptors to the Ras/MAP kinase pathway. FGF21 injection in ob/ob mice results in an increase in Glut1 in adipose tissue. FGF21 also protects animals from diet-induced obesity when overexpressed in transgenic mice and lowers blood glucose and triglyceride levels when administered to diabetic rodents.[8] Treatment of animals with FGF21 results in increased energy expenditure, fat utilization and lipid excretion.
