The Bioaim Human FGF-19 ELISA kit is a solid phase sandwich ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) for the quantitative measurement of FGF-19 in Human serum, plasma and cell culture media. An antibody specific for Human FGF-19 was coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are added to the wells and any FGF-19 present binds to the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and biotinylated anti-Human FGF-19 antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is added to the wells. The wells are again washed and TMB substrate solution is added, which produces a blue color in direct proportion to the amount of FGF-19 present in the initial sample. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the microwell absorbances are read at 450 nm.

Fibroblast growth factor 19(FGF-19)
Background: FGF-19 (Fibroblast Growth Factor-19) is a secreted heparin-binding protein in the endocrine subfamily of FGFs that also includes FGF-21 and FGF-23. It is produced by epithelial cells of the ileal intestine in response to bile acids and signals through a receptor complex of FGF R4 and Klotho-beta in the liver. FGF-19 suppresses bile acid synthesis and enhances hepatic protein and glycogen synthesis. Dysregulalted FGF-19 activity is associated with the development of hypercholesterolemia, gall stones, bile acid induced diarrhoea (BAD), hepatocellular cancer, colon cancer, and metabolic syndrome. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family.
