The Bioaim Human BMP-9 ELISA kit is a solid phase sandwich ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) for the quantitative measurement of BMP-9 in Human serum, plasma and cell culture media. An antibody specific for Human BMP-9 was coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are added to the wells and any BMP-9 present binds to the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and biotinylated anti-Human BMP-9 antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is added to the wells. The wells are again washed and TMB substrate solution is added, which produces a blue color in direct proportion to the amount of BMP-9 present in the initial sample. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the microwell absorbances are read at 450 nm.Research Area Embryogenesis and morphogenesis;

Growth/differentiation factor 2(BMP-9) Background: BMPs are secreted signaling molecules that comprise a subfamily of the TGF-beta superfamily and were originally identified as regulators of cartilage and bone formation. There are at least 20 structurally and functionally related BMPs, most of which play roles in embryogenesis and morphogenesis of various tissues and organs. Biologically active BMPs are usually homodimers containing a characteristic cysteine knot structure. GDF2 has a role in inducing and maintaining the ability of embryonic basal forebrain cholinergic neurons (BFCN) to respond to a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine; BFCN are important for the processes of learning, memory and attention. GDF2 is also important for the maturation of BFCN.
