The Bioaim Human BMP-4 ELISA kit is a solid phase sandwich ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) for the quantitative measurement of BMP-4 in human serum and plasma. An antibody specific for human BMP-4 was coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are added to the wells and any BMP-4 present binds to the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and biotinylated anti-human BMP-4 antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is added to the wells. The wells are again washed and TMB substrate solution is added, which produces a blue color in direct proportion to the amount of BMP-4 present in the initial sample. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the microwell absorbances are read at 450 nm.Research Area Embryogenesis and morphogenesis; cancer stem cell Biomarker;
bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP-4 ) Background: BMP4 is a member of the bone morphogenetic protein family which is part of the transforming growth factor-beta superfamily. The superfamily includes large families of growth and differentiation factors. BMP4 is highly conserved evolutionarily. BMP4 is found in early embryonic development in the ventral marginal zone and in the eye, heart blood and otic vesicle. BMPs are secreted signaling molecules that comprise a subfamily of the TGF-beta superfamily and were originally identified as regulators of cartilage and bone formation. There are at least 20 structurally and functionally related BMPs, most of which play roles in embryogenesis and morphogenesis of various tissues and organs. Heterodimers, BMP-2/BMP-7 and BMP-4/BMP-7 have also been suggested to exist and function in vivo. They are more potent inducers of bone formation than their respective homodimers.
